About the Artist
Biba (B.I. Freiji) is a contemporary Lebanese-American artist. Born and raised in Beirut, she permanently relocated to the United States at the age of 17. She pursued higher education in the U.S., earning a degree in fine arts. Biba's art alludes to her early life exposure to the hardships of the Lebanese civil war. Her early paintings explore several different movements from Byzantine art techniques to surrealism. Her latest paintings are heavily reflective of the Symbolism spectrum. Through her paintings, she strives to convey her sensitivity to social issues, including the oppression of women and children, religion, traditions, discrimination and inequality. Since moving to New York in 2007, Biba has continued her art education and her study of various movements and genres. She is currently working on 2 series; the first explores women’s freedoms/obligations/beauty and the second reflects nature and space. Her other interests include music, ceramics, writing, design, archaeology (Mesopotamian), poetry & travel.
